Officer Rosendo
Briones
I graduated from Martin High School in
Laredo, Texas in 1971. I received a Bachelor of Arts degree from Texas A
& I University at Laredo in 1975. I joined the Houston Police Department
in 1979. I have been a K-9 Officer for the past 20 years.
I first became involved in the Navidad
en el Barrio Program after I met Officer Israel Gomez. I think I am
involved in the Navidad en el Barrio program for selfish reasons. It
gives me joy to see the happiness in the faces of children who might not
otherwise have a Christmas present to open on Christmas Day. In addition,
I enjoy talking to teachers and principals who demonstrate an enthusiasm
for their children, our future. The enthusiasm and caring for children
as shown by teachers and principals adds to the positive and caring
atmosphere in the program itself.
I got my community involved in Alvin
when I persuaded some of the schools in Alvin to participate. It did not
take a lot of persuasion because the principals and schools readily
accepted the invitation to participate. Mark Twain Primary was the first
school involved, thanks to Mr. Greg Quinn, former principal, who
enthusiastically accepted the invitation. Other schools that have been
involved are Longfellow Elementary and Hood Case Elementary.
