Milestones: 1987 to
1991
The first Navidad En El Barrio program was
held on December 12, 1987. Four
hundred eighty-nine children benefited from this new experimental
program. The program consisted of students, teachers, and adult
volunteers who donated their time towards this effort. This level
continued in 1988.
In 1989,
Navidad En El Barrio set out to increase the amount of children's lives
touched. Through fund-raising efforts and various other donations, we
successfully made Christmas possible for 520 underprivileged children.
In 1990,
the number of children who benefited from this program increased to over
600, and was maintained in 1991
despite funding cutbacks. This level was maintained due to our personal
major fund-raising efforts.
